Harry Higgs
Hey, I’m Harry; the founder of the OverRun Project.
My running journey properly began in 2023 after I completed my first ever Parkrun in a time of 32:44 and officially caught the ‘running bug’. Before then, the furthest I had run was the 100m and 200m sprint at school and Thanet Cross Country in 2005.
For most of my life I have struggled with poor mental health, particularly anxiety and OCD. Running has given me a space to control my thoughts and focus on being the very best version of myself; without the negative demons in my mind controlling me. After connecting with some amazing runners on this journey, the biggest thing I hear is how so many people are running to improve their mental health but too afraid to talk openly about their struggles in fear of sounding ‘weird’. As someone who has struggled mentally for many years, I know what it feels like to suffer in silence, to feel so alone that nobody could possibly understand you.
From this day, I founded the OverRun Project; a running club that is dedicated to breaking down barriers and encouraging conversations around mental health. Together, our mission is to tackle the negative stigma around mental health and encourage people to speak openly together through the reformative power of running.
